Briefly

Over the summer I've been keeping an eye on TheCourt.ca, the student blog of my new school, and although it's a little spotty, I wanted to pass along this awesome smackdown of the Canada Family Action Coalition's complaint to the Canadian Judicial Council. They're upset about Beverly McLachlin's approval of Dr. Henry Morgentaler's admission to the Order of Canada.

Extra timely in light of the two big legal sneak attacks on women's health this year, bill C-527 (link: We Move to Canada) and C-484 (Antonia Zerbisias for the Toronto Star).

I predict that the fall semester ends with me buying Christopher Bird a beer... and doing a formal "What's the evil to stupid ratio on this?" for legal action over reproduction in the last year.

If you're going into your first year at Oz, you'd be well-advised to sign on with thecourt.ca as a first year contributor - the workload is light, and if you want a law-related job for next summer (or to write for thecourt.ca next summer - the pay is decent) it's really good on your resume. Plus it exposes you to lots of law in a hurry.
